Learn How to Deal With Your Siding After Severe Weather

After surviving a severe storm, a well-built home should stay mostly intact. But as soon as it’s safe to go out, you should start checking your home for any damage that has been sustained. You can expect to spend on siding repair or even a roof replacement depending on the level of damage, so here’s how you can deal with it properly:

Know Your Siding Warranty

It’s important to check your siding’s warranty so you’ll understand its coverage, as it may provide a good deal on the damaged siding. For instance, if your insurance policy includes an extra provision for completely re-siding your home, you can choose to do so even if the storm damaged only one area of your home. And depending on the policy language and provisions of your coverage, you may also do a supplemental claim to cover the cost of re-siding the whole home if a color match can’t be found.

Make Your Claim Properly

It’s recommended that you get an accurate estimate of your siding damage from a trusted siding and roofing company to know how much your insurance can cover. Your insurance company should give you a similar estimate, as they often use the same type of software that professional contractors use when determining the damage costs.

If you file even just two claims within five years, this is enough to make your company cancel your coverage. Make sure to also contact not the insurance company, but your insurance agent specifically. Your agent can help you decide your best options and whether it’s best to push through with filing your claim. For instance, if the original manufacturer of your siding material might be out of business or no longer makes the same product, then your insurance agent may advise on completely re-siding your home.
