Choosing to install and hang gutters by yourself may not be the best decision for your home. You might think that you’ll save money, but there’s a reason why gutters are meant to be installed by trusted professionals. There’s no guarantee that you’ll do a good job when you DIY a gutter installation, but if you insist on doing it yourself, don’t be surprised that you’ll encounter problems and costly repairs later on.
When you hire a professional gutter and siding contractor such as Right Angle Builders, Inc., you can be confident that your gutter system will be built to your specifications and last for many years. We also avoid doing rookie mistakes such as:
Calculating the Pitch Incorrectly
You might assume that a well-built gutter system looks perfectly even, but it’s an illusion. Gutters are pitched slightly (about one to two inches of decline for every forty feet of length) which allows water to flow towards the downspouts. It’s not easily noticeable but it helps sweep away debris and keeps your gutters clean. It also allows water to flow to the downspouts without overwhelming them, which would’ve backed up the whole system otherwise.
As a professional roofing contractor, we always check with a level to make sure the gutters are at the proper pitch before we mount them. We also offer gutter cleaning services if you’re not keen on going up the roof and doing it yourself. Just call us for more information!
Improper Gutter Location
As experienced installers, we make sure that your gutter is installed just a few inches under the edge of your roof. Water will drip off the very edge of your roof, but also be pulled back up on the underside. It will then drip out a few inches underneath your roof’s edge. This can damage your fascia board and siding, so to prevent this from happening, we’ll also install a drip edge under the first course of shingles. This will force water to run freely from the roof edge down into the gutters!
